Connecting to Client's Servers via VPN

Here at Dimodelo Solutions we often work remotely. With today’s technology, we can use Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology to securely connect into our client’s network and access their Servers, as if we were there on site. All that is required is the appropriately authorized Server credentials (User Name and Password) and a VPN Server configured at the client site. Today, it is very easy to set up a VPN Server on a Windows Server. VPN functionality is built into Windows Server 2008. For more information about VPNs visit this link, which has a good basic explanation of VPN Servers. For information about setting up Windows 2008 VPN Server visit this link.

A VPN allows us to connect directly to the Servers using client tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio, Business Intelligence Design Studio and Dimodelo Data Warehouse Studio.

It’s as if we are sitting in the Clients offices. With tools like Skype and Join Me etc, the tyranny of distance is no longer an issue.
